THE CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR WHEEL—A BLACKBOARD TALK FOR THE JUNIOR SOCIETY

Draw on the board or on a large sheet of paper a great wheel. It will be much better if this can be drawn in the presence of the children. Tell them that this wheel stands for the junior society and its work. Then put in the spokes. Each one of them must stand for a committee. You may use different colors for each spoke, as yellow for the sunshine committee, sky blue for the prayer-meeting committee, pure white for the lookout committee, warm red for the social committee, green for the flower committee, etc.

Talk a little about the tire that binds all of these spokes together. What is it? The pledge, of course!

Then talk about the hub which is the center of it all. What is the hub? The Bible, of course!

Make the children notice that all of the spokes are of the same length. All of the committees are important. If any one of them should do poor work, the wheel would be unsound and likely to fall to pieces.

Name different parts of the tire. Here is the promise to take some part in every meeting. Here is the promise of daily prayer, and here the pledge of daily Bible-reading. Does it make any difference where a break comes? No, the tire must all be good and strong. A weak spot anywhere means a collapse just as a weak spot in the committee work means a collapse.

Then ask the different members of the committees to tell, each one of them, of some one thing his committee should do for the dear Lord’s sake. As each thing is mentioned, write it upon the board alongside or across the proper spoke, or else in lines radiating from the spokes. Use appropriate colors for these also. You will find this exercise a very valuable one, tending to fix in the minds of the whole society the kinds of work they have undertaken to do.
