(November 12, 1842–June 30, 1919), 3rd Baron Rayleigh, was a scientist at Cambridge, 1879–84; a member of the Royal Institution, 1887–1905; and the chancellor of Cambridge, 1908–19. He was the co-discoverer of Argon, 1895; as well as other rare gases. He pioneered the studies of electromagnetic wave motion, optics, sonics, gas dynamics, as well as perfecting similitude and dimensional analysis as scientific tools. A pioneer in developing molecular acoustics, Lord Rayleigh John Strutt was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1904.
In the introduction to his published papers, he stated:
The works of the Lord are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.2822
