We begin our Bible studies this month by continuing a study of the Ten Commandments from the teachings of Dr. John Gerstner. He brings unsurpassed theological precision to his discussion of these important primary tenants of our religious heritage. After God gave the Ten Commandments, He gave a series of other commands to Israel through the mediation of Moses. These laws, found in Exodus 21–23, are called the Book of the Covenant. With studies taken from R. C.’s teaching we will consider the highlights of these passages. Later in the month we will look again at the cross of Christ to see how the law and the Cross are related in God’s redemptive plan. The conclusion we draw is this: Since God has written these laws in the Bible, they are wisdom for the church for all times, and we must strive to properly apply their fundamental principles to our lives. To do this is to live Coram Deo, in subjection to the God in Whose presence we live and move and have our being.
