Did you know that Christ is a schoolmaster? Paul speaks of him in that way; and indeed he is a schoolmaster, and the best that ever was.
What book is used in the school of Christ? Yes, the Bible. It must be studied every day, and committed to memory, and carefully explained, and especially we must go to Christ himself and ask him to show us about the hard places in it; and he will gladly do so.
What are the things taught in Christ’s school? All sorts of things. Christ will teach you to do your work about the house, how to behave in school, how to win friends, how to keep a smile on your face, how to bear headaches, how to make a rainy day a bright one,—all sorts of things are taught in this wonderful school of Christ’s.
Who are the scholars there? Any one that loves the Teacher. He will not teach those that come because some one orders them to, or because it is a popular school, or for any reason except that they love the Teacher and want to learn. This is because those are the only kind of people that can learn anything, anyway.
How long is this school in session? As long as the scholars live. There’s always something to learn, and the lessons are all the time growing more beautiful and more interesting, so that the longer the scholars stay the longer they want to stay. And when they die, they keep right on in another school, a higher school, that Christ teaches up in heaven.
And now, children, have you really entered this wonderful school of Christ’s?
