This month our Bible studies will focus on the lives of David and Solomon, the greatest of the biblical kings of Israel. When God gave the kingdom to His people, the focus of the kingdom, humanly speaking, was the human king. He was to hearken to the word of the High King, a word mediated through the Lord’s prophets. If a king disobeyed, God responded accordingly, bringing discipline into his life or removing him from the throne altogether.
The best-known example of a king’s fall into sin was David’s sin with Bathsheba. In light of this, in addition to studying the lives of David and Solomon this month (studies taken from R. C.’s teaching, supplemented by other Reformed scholars), we will spend several days examining the doctrine of sin from R. C.’s series on this subject. We can learn both positive and negative examples from biblical leaders. Striving to please God, to live each moment aware of God’s presence is living Coram Deo. Once again make that your aim this month as you study.
