Zilpah
(Heb. Tsilpah’, , a trickling; Sept. v.r. ; Josephus, ,l Ant. 1, 19,7; Vulg. Zelpha), a female servant of Laban, whom he gave to Leah on her marriage with Jacob (Gen 29:24), and whom Leah eventually induced him to take as a concubine wife, in which capacity she became the mother of Gad and Asher (Gen 30:9-13; Gen 35:26; Gen 37:2; Genesis 46, 18). Zilpah
zilpa (, zilpah, meaning uncertain; , Zelpha): The ancestress of Gad and Asher (Gen 30:10, Gen 30:12; Gen 35:26; Gen 46:18), a slave girl of Leah’s, given her by Laban (Gen 29:24; Gen 30:9). In Ezek 48 the Zilpah tribes have the 5th division toward the South of Palestine and the 6th to the North, a slightly more favorable position than that of the Bilhah tribes.

Zil’pah. (a trickling). A Syrian, given by Laban, to his daughter Leah, as an attendant, Gen 29:24, and by Leah, to Jacob, as a concubine. She was the mother of Gad and Asher. Gen 30:9-13; Gen 35:26; Gen 37:2; Gen 46:18. (B.C. 1753).
