Remove, Removing
“to pass over from one place to another” (meta, implying “change,” and baino, “to go”), is translated “to remove” in Mat 17:20 (twice). See PASS, No. 7.
is used transitively in the sense of causing “to remove,” in Act 13:22, of the “removing” of King Saul, by bringing about his death; in 1Co 13:2, of “removing” mountains. See PUT, No. 23, TRANSLATE, TURN.
“to remove a person or thing from one place to another” (meta, implying “change,” tithemi, “to put”), e.g., Act 7:16, “were carried over,” signifies, in the Middle Voice, “to change oneself,” and is so used in Gal 1:6 “(I marvel that) ye are … removing,” RV (not as AV, “removed”); the present tense suggests that the defection of the Galatians from the truth was not yet complete and would continue unless they changed their views. The Middle Voice indicates that they were themselves responsible for their declension, rather than the Judaizers who had influenced them. See CARRY, No. 5.
lit., “to bring to or before” (para, “beside,” phero, “to carry”), “to take or carry away,” is translated “remove” in the Lord’s prayer in Gethsemane, Mar 14:36, RV (AV, “take away”); Luk 22:42. See TAKE. In the Sept., 1Sa 21:13.
“to remove to a new abode, cause to migrate” (meta, implying “change,” oikos, “a dwelling place”), is translated “removed” in Act 7:4; “I will carry … away” (Act 7:43). See CARRYING AWAY, B.
“to separate, part asunder,” is used in the Passive Voice in Rev 6:14, “(the heaven) was removed,” RV (AV, “departed”). See DEPART, No. 14.
