Imna and Imnah
the name of several men, of different form in the original, which is not accurately observed in the English Version.
1. Hebrew YIMNA’ ( restrainer; Sept. , Vulg. Jemnna, Auth. Vers. Irmna), one of the sons apparently of Helem, the brother of Shamer, a descendant of Asher, but at what distance is not clear (1Ch 7:35). B.C. prob. cir. 1618. SEE HOTHAM.
2. Hebrew YIMNAH’ , fortunate; Sept. in Gen 46:17, , Vulg. Jemna, Auth. Vers. Jimnah; in Num 26:44, and , Jemnsa and Jemnaitce, Jimna and Jimnites; in 1Ch 7:30, , Jemna, Imnah), the first-named of the sons of Asher, and founder of a family who bore his name. B. C. 1874. 3. (Same Hebrew name as last; Sept. , Vulg. Jemnta, Auth.Vers. Imnah’). The father of Kore, which latter was the Levite in charge of the east gate of the Temple, and appointed by Hezekiah over the free-will offerings (2Ch 31:14). B. C. 726.
