Eden, House of

Eden, House Of

EDEN, HOUSE OF.A place or district connected politically with Damascus (Amo 1:5 RVm [Note: Revised Version margin.] Beth-eden). Of the five suggestions for locality the likeliest is Eden or Ehden, 20 miles N.W. of Baalbek, on the N.W. slope of Lebanon. Its most formidable competitor, Bit-Adini, a district on either bank of the Middle Euphrates, frequently mentioned in the cuneiform inscriptions, is too far200 milesfrom Damascus, and in the days of Amos had long been subject to Assyria.
