Shortly

Shortly

“straightway, directly,” is translated “shortly” in 3Jo 1:14. The general use of the word suggests something sooner than “shortly.” See FORTHWITH, STRAIGHTWAY.

Note: In 2Pe 1:14, AV, tachinos, an adjective denoting “swift” (akin to the above), is translated “shortly” (RV, “swiftly”), lit., “the putting off of my tabernacle is swift” (i.e., in its approach). Cp. 2Pe 2:1.
