Shore
is the rendering in the A.V. of three Heb. and two Greek words.
1. , choph (so called from being chafed by the waves [Gesen.], or enclosed [Furst]; comp. Engl. cove, and the modern town Chaifa), a roadstead (Jdg 5:17; Jer 47:7; coast in Jos 9:1; Eze 25:10; haven in Gen 49:13; side in Deu 1:7); , a beach (Mat 13:2; Mat 13:48; Joh 21:4; Act 21:5; Act 27:39-40).
2. , katseh, the extremity of the land (Jos 15:2; elsewhere brim, brink, etc.).
3. , saphah, a lip (as often, sometimes brink, bank, etc.); , the lip (as usually, shore only in Heb 11:12). SEE SEA.

shor: (1) , hoph, always of the Mediterranean, variously translated haven, beach, shore, sea-shore, coast, sea coast (Gen 49:13; Deu 1:7; Jos 9:1; Jdg 5:17; Jer 47:7; Eze 25:16). (2) , saphah, literally, lip; compare Arabic shafat, lip; of the sand upon the seashore, a figure of multitude (Gen 22:17; Exo 14:30; Jos 11:4; Jdg 7:12; 1Sa 13:5; 1Ki 4:29); the shore of the Red Sea or Gulf of Akabah by Ezion-geber (1Ki 9:26; 2Ch 8:17); the brink of the River Nile (Gen 41:3, Gen 41:17); the edge (the King James Version brink) of the valley of Arnon (Deu 2:36). (3) , kaceh, literally, end, extremity, the uttermost part (the King James Version shore) of the Salt Sea (Jos 15:2); , keceh ha-‘arec, the end of the earth (Psa 46:9); compare Arabic ‘akas-l-‘ard, the uttermost parts of the earth. (4) , chelos, literally, lip, as the sand which is by the seashore (Heb 11:12). (5) , aigialos, the beach (the King James Version shore) of the Sea of Galilee (Mat 13:2, Mat 13:48; Joh 21:4); of the Mediterranean (Act 21:5; Act 27:39, Act 27:40).
