Abbey, Newhouse

The first Premonstratensian abbey in England , founded, 1143, by Peter de Gousel with monks from Liegues Abbey near Calais, France . From it were founded Premonstratensian abbeys at Alnwick, Barlings, Bileigh, Coverham, Croxton, Dale, Saint Agatha’s, Newbo, and Sulby, all in England . It was confiscated by Henry VIII . Only parts of the old foundations remain.
