Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Genesis 24:48

And I bowed down my head, and worshiped the LORD, and blessed the LORD God of my master Abraham, which had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter unto his son.

48. my master’s brother’s daughter ] The servant definitely states the relationship of Rebekah; cf. Gen 22:23. “Brother” may mean “relative” (Gen 13:8, Gen 14:14). Those who think Bethuel’s name in this chapter ( Gen 24:15 ; Gen 24:24 ; Gen 24:47 [50]) is inserted as a gloss, regard Rebekah as Abraham’s niece, the daughter of Nahor, and refer to Gen 29:5.
