Exegetical and Hermeneutical Commentary of Genesis 24:24

And she said unto him, I [am] the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bore unto Nahor.

So she signifies that she was Nahors daughter, not by his concubine, but by his lawful and principal wife.

And she said unto him, I [am] the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah,…. Which Milcah was the daughter of Haran, Abraham’s elder brother, and, as thought by many, sister to Sarah, Abraham’s wife, see

Ge 11:29:

which she bare unto Nahor; Abraham’s brother; so that her father was Nahor’s son, not by his concubine Reumah, but by his lawful wife Milcah, which sets Rebekah’s descent in a true light, see Ge 22:20; whether she told her own name is not certain, it may be, since the servant bade it, Ge 24:45.

(24) Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.Rebekah mentions her fathers mother to show that she was descended from a highborn wife; but the servant would welcome it as proving that not only on the fathers side, but also on the mothers, she was Isaacs cousin, Milcah being the daughter of Haran, Abrahams brother. And when thus he knew that she fulfilled all the conditions, he gave her the jewels which he was holding in his hand, and bowed the head, and gave thanks.
