And Jared lived after he begot Enoch eight hundred years, and begot sons and daughters:
And Jared lived, after he begat Enoch, eight hundred years,…. And so, the Greek version, but the Samaritan is seven hundred and eighty five:
and begat sons and daughters; in that time, as well as before; for it is not to be imagined in this, or either of the foregoing or following instances, that these sons and daughters were begotten after living to such an age, since it is plain at that age they died.

Gen 5:19 And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
Ver. 19. And Jared lived after he begat Enoch. ] He lived the longer, likely, for the great content he took in so good a son. Towardly and hopeful children do help to lengthen their parents’ days. God therefore lengtheneth theirs, according to that “first commandment with promise.” Eph 6:2 Or, if he take from them this long lease, he gives them, as he did Enoch, a freehold of a better value.
